Gaby’s Story

When my husband and I first moved to Oregon in 2013, we had each been working full-time jobs but weren’t making enough money to get by. We started talking about opening our own business- maybe a pizzeria, maybe a Oaxacan restaurant- but these businesses require a large investment to get started. After some deep thought, we said, “Why not make ice cream?’ To make ice cream doesn’t take much capital or equipment, just the work of our hands.

We started writing recipes, trying them out, then learned the process of how to make the ice cream properly. My husband’s brother shared some recipes from Mexico with us and showed us how to make them, plus he gave us tips and tricks on how to use different ingredients and come up with our own recipes. After practicing, I began to perfect the recipes and add my own touch to each of them. One of the best parts of this work is the satisfaction of having someone taste what I’ve created and seeing their face when they get to enjoy it. I love what I do because I get to put my passion and creativity into a project that brings joy to others.

We’re now at the stage of our business where we are ready to open our first storefront- somewhere where our customers can find us year-round, where we can expand our menu, learn new recipes, and build community. Our goal is to continue sharing the flavors and ingredients of Oaxaca with people here in Oregon.
